In stressful situations, your body responds by releasing a hormone called cortisol. Long-term exposure to cortisol causes your blood sugar levels to rise to the point that insulin (the hormone that lowers blood sugar) is unable to remove it from the bloodstream and into cells. When this occurs over time your susceptibility to developing type 2 diabetes is markedly increased.

The best way to deal with stress is to learn how to manage the stress that comes along with any new challenge, whether good or bad. Stress management skills work best when you use them regularly, not just when you’re under pressure. “DE-stressing” when things are relatively calm can help you get through any challenging circumstances that may arise.
