In general, recent trends in higher education have shown indicators for continual and impressive progress for the future of Black doctoral students (Golde & Walker, 2006; National Opinion Research Center [NORC], 2007; Roach, 1997; Thompson, 1999) and although much of the aforementioned research has been focused at the undergraduate level, the role of HBCUs in graduate education has been equally impressive as they have been a critical force in the production of Black graduate and first professional degree recipients.
My name is Tiffany Patrice Fountaine and I am conducting a research study concerning the socialization experiences and persistence for doctoral students (all racial and ethnic minorities) and recent doctoral program graduates. This study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Morgan State University. If you meet all of the following criteria, please consider participating in a brief survey by clicking the link below:
(1) A currently enrolled doctoral student or recent doctorate completer (within the last 12 months); and
(2) Pursuing a non-professional doctoral degree (e.g., EdD, PhD), but NOT a professional degree (e.g., MD, DDS, JD); and
(3) Pursuing a doctoral program at a Historically Black College or University.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/X33N986 Your participation is greatly needed. It is hoped the results from this study will contribute to a framework for faculty, administrators, and students in assessing program development and informing practice, in the interest of improving the experiences and persistence for doctoral students attending HBCUs. Thank you so much for your time. I am happy to provide you with the results (aggregrate) of this study and/or any other materials that could assist you in completing your doctoral studies.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
