I sat down with the men of Central State University’s Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. Delta Xi chapter, Saeed Harris and Chris Brown. Saeed Harris, a graduating senior, studying sociology with a minor in human growth and development and Chris Brown in his junior year is studying criminal justice with a minor in business management.
The men of the infamous Delta Xi chapter listed all of their programs from the past year which entail: March of Dimes, Project Alpha (a seminar covering issues about S.T.D.s and celibacy), step teasers, My Brother’s Keeper, and clothing drives. They even find time to extend a helping hand to their surrounding communities encouraging high school students at Fairborn High School, Xenia High School, and F.C.I. Academy in Columbus, OH to venture on to college in their program Go to School Go to College. Alpha Phi Alpha also adopted a family in Xenia, OH.
When they aren’t busy with community service, the brothers in black and gold show off their moves in local and national step offs. In 2010 Delta Xi entered in the Sprite Step Off in Chicago, IL taking home the first place grand prize of $100,000 and brought home an additional $100,000 in 2011 at the step off in Washington D.C.
I asked the guys for a brief Sneak Peek into Greek:
JE: What organizations do you think Alpha Phi Alpha collaborates best with?
SH: We have no bias against any other Greeks. We work well with all of our divine nine.
CB: But our best work is with our Bruhs.
JE: Who are your idols?
SH: Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King Jr., Wayne Knox, and Will Murry.
JE: Out of the list you just provided, who has the greatest impact on your life?
SH: Jesus. He died for our sins, without him none of this would be possible.
JE: What is the best part of being an Alpha?
CB: Having the ability to network in the business world better for sure and I get to build brotherhoods with people.
JE: What are your dislikes about going Greek?
SH: I hate the stereotypes we get. People look at you different. I’m still a man. It’s like I am no longer Saeed, I’m Saeed the Alpha.
That’s a wrap on our Sneak Peek into Greek. Thank you for stopping by and to learn more about Delta Xi visit
