About the Role As a Unit Clerk, you will work under the direction of licensed professional nurses and/or the Clinical Manager to support the daily clerical and administrative operations of the nursing unit. You will play a key role in keeping the unit running smoothly by managing communications, maintaining accurate records, and delivering exceptional customer service all while staying calm and organized in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
Shift: MondayFriday | 3:00 PM 11:30 PM
Key Responsibilities - Serve as the communication hub of the nursing unit, answering patient call bells, notifying nursing staff of patient needs, and providing face-to-face follow-up as directed
- Initiate and maintain patient paper and electronic medical records with accuracy and attention to detail
- Perform clerical duties including faxing, copying, telephone and paging management, computer entry, and printer management
- Type and prepare unit documents such as staff meeting minutes, flyers, notices, and other materials as requested by the unit manager
- Process department mail and maintain reports, logs, and forms
- Print assignment sheets and patient lists including central lines and restraints to support the charge RN
- Demonstrate awareness of clinical priorities, STAT orders, and patient issues requiring immediate attention
- Assist with supply management and equipment maintenance, including placing HEMM, equipment, and supply orders and submitting broken equipment requests to Biomed
- Support cost containment by utilizing supplies efficiently, recording charges accurately, and maintaining productive work habits
- Assist the manager with audits including armband audits and safety rounds
- Maintain a log of patients who are off the unit for non-clinical reasons
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment
- Greet patients, physicians, visitors, and co-workers warmly, introducing yourself and communicating in a polite, clear, and calm manner
- Support customer service activities including obtaining clerical materials for patient admissions and conducting customer service rounds under the direction of the nurse manager
- Participate in unit-based committees and unit activities as needed
Work Experience
Education and Experience - High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- One year health care facility experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Highly effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels hospital staff, patients, visitors, and levels of staff.
- Medical Terminology preferred.
- Computer skills required;knowledge ofMicrosoft office to includeWord and Outlook
