Join the Long Beach Community College District as an Instructional Associate in Photography and Digital Media Arts, supporting students as they explore and practice their creative skills. You'll assist with hands-on instruction, maintain photography and digital media labs, and help students navigate both darkroom processes and industry-standard 2D/3D media software.In this role, you'll help ensure labs are safe, organized, and ready for students to learn, experiment, and receive guidance during class and open lab sessions, including support for portfolio development and preparation for transfer or creative careers. We're looking for someone who is collaborative, safety-minded, and passionate about student-centered learning, with strong communication skills and the ability to build meaningful connections across a diverse campus community.
Additionally, this candidate must have an Associate's degree with major coursework in subject matter applicable to assignment and three (3) years of experience in digital media and/or photography professional environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience working with college-age students in an organized, educational environment is desired. - *Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
- Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis; however, please note that requests are typically capped at Step 3.

Duties
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, provides lab and instructional assistance to students and faculty within the subject matter of digital media and photography. Provides assistance and support on instruction and learning and related technologies and equipment. Performs assigned activities to ensure labs are kept in an orderly, safe and well-maintained manner and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Instructional Associate-Photography/Digital Media Arts is a lab-based instructional support classification. Incumbents exercise technical judgment to calibrate and maintain specialized equipment, mix and handle photographic chemicals, manage circulation and inventory, and create learning materials that reinforce faculty instruction.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
Associate's degree with major coursework in subject matter applicable to assignment and three (3) years of experience in digital media and/or photography professional environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience working with college-age students in an organized, educational environment is desired.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy. Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
