HEALTH TIP: Cut Back On Saturated Fats

Nina Cherie Franklin Franklin · Wednesday, January 16th 2013 at 12:23PM · 633 views
Cutting back on foods that are high in saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol will greatly reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke. These fats can be found in meats, dairy foods, and products that are commercially baked or fried. With that said, here are 5 things you can do today to reduce your intake of saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol:

1. Replace your morning donut, muffin or pastry with fruit, oatmeal, steel cut oats, or a high-fiber cereal.
2. Add fat-free or 1% milk to your coffee/tea latte.
3. Prepare a sandwich with fresh chicken breast, tuna or salmon in place of cold cuts.
4. Remove any visible fat from your meat or poultry before you eat it.
5. Use olive oil in place of butter or margarine.
