Thanks, Leshell.

As usual, an instructive, inspiring contribution.

She was quite a woman. I was especially interested in her doctoral thesis: "Pope and His influence in America from 1715 to 1815”, exploring the attitudes of Alexander Pope towards slavery and his influence on American writers.

The reason it caught my eye is because I am currently working on a biography of the poet PHillis Wheatley (would you believe there are NO current biographies of Phillis available for adult? there are plenty of Phillis bios for children and YA. But nothing aimed at adult readers. I aim to correct that.)

Anyway, Alexander Pope was one of her main influences and inspirations. It made me curious to find out whether Dr. Dykes explored Phillis in her dissertation!

You may be able to obtain her dissertation from Harvard....
