Local business incubator to host the city’s first free and comprehensive online directory of black-owned businesses in Central Ohio.

Blackspace Columbus is calling on all black-owned businesses to step up and be seen. In today’s climate, consumers all over the city are anxious to show their backing for the #blacklivesmatter movement by supporting black-owned businesses. By the end of the month, Blackspacecolumbus.com will post a comprehensive directory of Central Ohio businesses with 51% or more black ownership. This will be the first Columbus directory of black businesses that does not charge a fee to be listed. All black business owners and entrepreneurs are encouraged to go to Blackspacecolumbus.com as soon as possible to submit their listing.Black-owned franchises and online businesses operating in and around the city, as well as black individuals participating in multi-level marketing businesses, will be included in the directory. “We’re really just trying to get the word out about the directory right now. We want as many people as possible to have an opportunity to be represented.”–Shalonda Lee, Owner Already Making A Positive Impact BlackspaceColumbus is the only business incubator in the city that focuses on promoting and propelling black entrepreneurs and artists.

Since its July 1, 2020 launch, Blackspace has already worked with over 30 local entrepreneurs and artists. In its first two weeks, Blackspace media has reached over 5,000 people with an exponentially growing following. Rhonda Reese of Stems and Stone, a local plant subscription service, expressed her “infinite gratitude”towards Blackspace Columbus for promoting her and others. Socioeconomic equality must happen systematically at the local level. The centuries of systematic injustice towards people of color in this country are reflected in the poor condition of black-owned business in Columbus. In order to ensure that local black entrepreneurs and artists have easy access to the resources and education required to optimize their success, Blackspace will host relevant and informative workshops,a shared event, meeting and work space and a variety of promotional events.
