WHAT:
North Carolina A&T State University, a Historically Black College located in Greensboro, NC is primarily known for graduating the largest number of Black Engineers in the country. But Engineers aren’t the only top students that the school is producing. A few years ago, the University implemented a Master’s of Science in Management program where students can major in the growing field of Human Resource Management, attracting students from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels.
Each year, the best and brightest Human Resource Management Students from around the country compete in Student Case Competitions for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management, representing more than 260,000 members in over 140 countries. The SHRM Case Competition is conducted in five regions and consists of a two day event where teams of undergraduate and graduate students from various colleges and universities compete in both oral and written presentations. The teams have four hours to read, evaluate, and draft both the oral and written presentations, after which finalists are chosen by a set of judges to compete for 1st place in the Undergraduate and Graduate levels on day two.
Teams present at the Southeast Regional competition included the University of Central Florida and a returning winning team from West Virginia University and many others. A well prepared NC A&T team cruised to a victory in their first competition. The team, Angelo Smith, Brittney Jones, Adeia Nevels, and Tanya Beatty, along with their faculty advisor Dr. Angela Miles will be honored in Chicago at the SHRM National Professional Conference June 16th – 19th.
