The HR Business Partner is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full cycle Human Resources support within the University for the assigned span of care. The role is critical in executing our valuing people initiative, providing exceptional internal customer support, driving HR functional excellence, and implementing process improvement. This position will serve as the primary HR point of contact for the assigned span of care, including managing employee relations issues. The HR Business Partner will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles. This position reports to the Executive Director of Human Resources, HR Business Partner.

Required Education
* Bachelor's degree required, master's degree a plus, or equivalent work experience.

Required Experience
* Minimum 5+ years Human Resources HRBP, Generalist, or other employee-facing HR experience with increasing responsibility.
* PHR or SPHR (preferred).

Primary Duties/Essential Functions
* Acts as the single point of contact and trusted advisor for employees and managers by building strong relationships within the assigned span of care.
* Manages complex and difficult HR projects cross-functionally, actively identifies gaps, then proposes and implements changes necessary to cover risks.
- Advises and assists managers and employees with interpretation of company policies and procedures.
- Provides support and guidance on employee relations issues for the business units.
- Provides business units with guidance and counseling regarding performance improvement plans and disciplinary documentation.
- Conducts investigations into misconduct or harassment within the business units.
- Provides feedback to all employees and in a constructive manner.
- Sets strong, clear boundaries and provides professional counsel to an array of diverse personalities.
- Conducts exit interviews to help identify areas of concern within span of care.
* Assists in university-wide supervisor trainings, which may include but not be limited to: Respect and Esteem (sexual harassment) training, professional development, coaching, and other HR related training.
* Identifies employees ready for promotion and monitors and fosters development of uniquely talented employees across different functions in the organization.
* Identifies and prepares development plans for key employees and high potential employees.
* Ensures compliance with all federal and state employment laws. Stays abreast of current laws and trends in FMLA, SDI, PDL, PFL, and related laws.
* Answers basic questions regarding workers’ compensation claims, leaves of absence, benefits, and compensation for business unit.
* Establishes, maintains and protects the confidentiality of personnel information.
* Serves on various university committees as assigned.
* Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

* Meetings may require walking and/or driving to various University locations.
* Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach and lift up to 20 lbs.
* Must be able to climb stairs multiple times in a work day.

Visual Demands
* Computer monitor and reading.

Environment
* Pleasant office setting, comfortable temperature.

Technologies
* Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
* PeopleSoft and Kronos timekeeping
