Job Description

About the Role:

This position is for a Senior Software Engineer in Test in the SQA-Clinical team who will focus on automation of test sets for bioinformatics data that is used in the clinical laboratory to process patient samples and analyze their genomic profiles, helping to find the right treatment options for cancer patients based on a simple blood draw.

You'll need to have excellent communication and cross-group collaboration skills, be able to make forward progress despite ambiguous circumstances, be a self-starter, a quick learner of new technologies and have experience in test automation such as building integration framework with external tools, data management, and CI/CD test frameworks and tools.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact working with an exceptional team to lay the foundation for quality software across multiple products in a fast-paced environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with SQA engineers and members of the software development team to develop test cases that ensure the quality of the software used in CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA regulated environments.
  • Leads long term V&V planning and owns effort to guide projects with minimal direction.
  • Participate in requirements and design review meetings to create comprehensive, automated test strategies/plans for bioinformatics software leading to successful implementation and timely project completion.
  • Work with the software development team to understand functional specifications, identify gaps, define good acceptance criteria and design test cases for software testing.  
  • Work with cross-functional teams, and support integration and regression testing of bioinformatics software.  
  • Execute complex testing, perform in-depth statistical analysis, and interpret results independently.  
  • Design, create, enhance, and maintain data simulators and automated testing framework to ensure excellent testing coverage.  
  • Provide written documentation and specifications of software products and services.  Provide coaching to other team members for designing test strategies and test cases with strong knowledge of software testing principles.  
  • Report, track, and escalate anomalies discovered during all testing phases and ensure closure on issues.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related engineering field

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hand on experience in test automation using testing frameworks
  • 4+ years of hands on experience with software test development in Python
  • 4+ years of experience in Continuous Integration / Delivery tools such as Jenkins and container runtime tools such as Docker
  • Experience with TDD, BDD, or DDT methodologies
  • Experience with test case management tools and best practices for scalability and maintainability.
  • Excellent organization and people skills with the ability to work across functions to ensure successful testing.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
  • Preferred: experience leading verification and validation efforts

Work Environment:

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
